I was away on vacation in Portugal last week, and took the opportunity to visit one of our producers – Quinta do Gradil while I was there. Quinta do Gradil is located on the western foothills of the Serra de Montejunto, in the Lisbon region. The property is stunning with a beautiful yellow ruin for a façade in the middle of endless green hills of vines. The Lisbon region, formerly called Estremadura, stands out among wine-producing regions for its complexity and diversity in several areas: geology, climate and type of vegetation. The vineyard is made up of 120 hectares of vines with Portuguese and international grape varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Arinto, Viosinho, Viognier, Chardonnay, Petit Manseng, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Tannat, Petit Verdot and Syrah. Quinta do Gradil produces whites, reds and sparkling wines, a late harvest wine, spirits and only recently they’ve added beer to their portfolio! A big thank you to David and Bruno for showing me around and taking me through your range of wines.
If you are ever in the area, Quinta do Gradil is a must-see!
Saúde!
