As the alcohol market in Scandinavian countries is controlled by monopolies, procedures and method to enter the market is very different from other countries, which makes many producers discouraged. We try often to ease their worries by explaining procedures and processes. However, when they ask about the competition, we often have to rely on our instincts.

To solve this, we started by analyzing data from Sweden’s Systembolaget from 2014 to April 2024.

The data collected ranges from the tenders themselves to their results. How many products are in question on average? How many points do I normally need to win? In short, what are my chances?

It is difficult to make a clear statement about this, but in this report on Systembolaget Tender Winners, we provide an insight into the field. You can see it here: https://www.concealedwines.com/wpsysfiles/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Data-Report-Systembolaget-Winners.pdf

In order to get an overview of the situation, we have presented the course of the last 10 years. In addition to the overall development, we also look at the changes in the monopoly, the different product types and then take a look at one year as an example.

2014- April 2024 in numbers:

  • 4236 Products purchased
  • from 70 countries of origin
  • increase of almost 250 purchases per year
  • 18.7 products tasted on average
  • Winners scored 21.2 Points on average
  • 575 purchases in 2023

The latest completed year available is 2023, offering to show the data in more detail. The different product types, the breakdown of wine and the most important origins are discussed here so that you can gain a better understanding.

At the end, we come to perhaps the most important factors and the competition and scores are shown in two tables. To make the data useful for everyone, a breakdown has been made for all product categories and some time periods.

Hopefully this report will answer some of your questions and doubts. And if you are now interested in how exactly this one tender was again, then you can find the corresponding data in our archived tenders as a logged-in user.
