This past Sunday, our international team had the pleasure of experiencing a traditional Fika at Lindquist’s Pastry, and it was such a delightful time! Some of us went for the Selma a classic Swedish pastry that’s especially popular around Shrove Tuesday (the day before Lent). The Semla consists of a soft, cardamom-spiced bun filled with almond paste and whipped cream. It’s a heavenly combination of flavors that had everyone raving that they match with a coffee, which was absolutely delicious, light, sweet, and perfectly satisfying.
One of us, eager to try a little bit of everything, opted for a sample platter with 4-5 mini pastries, including the Dammsugare (or “Vacuum Cleaner”). The Dammsugare is a uniquely Swedish pastry, named for its resemblance to a vacuum cleaner. Along with the Milanese Pole, and Sarah Bernhardt. Each bite was a treat, and pairing them with a warm cup of tea made it even more special.
We had a wonderful time savoring these pastries and enjoying each other’s company. Whether you’re familiar with Swedish treats or trying them for the first time, Lindquist’s Pastry offers a great way to dive into this cozy tradition. Definitely a Sunday well spent!
